The Wilbur Smith Adventure Writing Prize is an annual award for adventure writing. The 2018 Wilbur Smith Adventure Writing Prize is closed for submissions. Submission dates for the 2019 Prize will be announced at the end of the year.

The Prize is split into two separate categories – an award for the best published adventure novel and a award for the best unpublished manuscript by a debut author. We only accept fiction.

Best Published Novel | Prize: £15,000

Submission dates will be announced at the end of 2018. Novels must be published by a recognised trade publisher.

Best Unpublished Manuscript | Prize: £7,500 research travel grant and manuscript development

Submission dates will be announced at the end of 2018. Manuscripts must be 50,000+ words. Writers must not be represented by a literary agent and cannot already have a novel published.

Please note, the travel grant is specifically for the winner to travel to research for their next story. All writers shortlisted receive professional development on their manuscript, intended to help each writer reach the standard necessary for submission to agents and publishers.

The full criteria and submission details for both categories can be found here.
