We were also thrilled to announce our new project: the Adventure Collection. The collection is a collaboration with Worldreader, timed to celebrate this year’s International Literacy Day.
Worldreader champion digital reading in underserved communities by providing a free digital library, available on mobile phones and Worldreader kindles, and accessed by over 500,000 people across 50 countries every month. The Adventure Collection is a miniature library within Worldreader’s mobile app, specifically designed to make short adventure stories and adventure novels accessible to children and families in all African countries who are traditionally held back from access to books, literacy and education.
Wilbur’s own short story, On Flinders’ Face, first published in 1963, will feature, as will Running With Mother, by Zimbabwean author Christopher Mlalazi (Weaver Press), Khama, by Kenyan author Stanley Gazemba (Imbada Publishers), and SPIRE, by South African author Fiona Snyckers (Clockwork Books). The collection will prioritise work by African authors, to engage and inspire writers and readers from across the continent as new titles are added every quarter.
You can access the Adventure Collection by visiting read.worldreader.org/Collection/Details/522 on your mobile phone browser.
Thank you to all those who joined us in celebrating last night, we can’t wait to see what literary adventures 2018 will bring!
