A Race through Time by Laksh Verma (age 11) is shortlisted for the 2019 Author of Tomorrow

On a cool foggy day, I step into a telephone box and whoosh into a space-time continuum, landing in 3019. The houses are funny, there are flying cars and when the police officer thinks I am illegal, I run away, only to find myself back in the future again.

1. What is your favourite book?
   My favourite book is Timmy Failure as it has lots of problems in the way and the writer keeps the book exciting in every page. Also it has a lot of comedy and action in it.
2. Who is your favourite author? Or one who has inspired you and why?
   My favourite author is J.K. Rowling as she uses good descriptions of scenes and characters in her books that make you feel as if you are inside the story.
3. What is/was your favourite subject at school?
   My favourite subject in school is English as we get to do different
   sorts of creative writing such as learning poetic rules, writing haikus, doing a continuation in comprehension, writing stories from scratch.
4. What does ‘adventure writing’ mean to you? Why did you choose to try your hand at an adventure story?
   Adventure writing means fun to me. As I like anything to do with adventure and action. I love the build-up to the events and also the very many exciting journeys the character goes through. I chose to write this type of story as I like these type of stories and tend to write adventure stories more than others.
5. If you could ask an author anything, what would you want to know?
   I would want to know how he/she had got the idea of the stories that they wrote, how they got their plot, descriptions and characters.
6. Who would you consider one of your heroes and why? (This does not have to be a writer...)
   One of my heroes is my mom as she is the one who inspired me to write and she has published one book as well. She wants to urge me on to keep on improving my writing and will always look out for me.
7. What is the most adventurous thing you would like to do, or place you would like to visit and why?
   I would like to go scuba diving as I would like to see the nature of the seas and all the beautiful fishes. I would also want to go on a hot air balloon as I could see the world from above.
8. Where do you find inspiration for your stories? (Books, historical events, famous adventurers/explorers, news etc.)
   I found inspiration for my stories when I sit and observe everything around me. I try to think of ideas wherever I am.
9. If you could time travel, where would you go and why?
   I would travel to the future as I would want to see how much the world has changed and try out all the new things that have been invented.
10. What three words would you use to describe your story?
    Disruption of Time.
