New Voices | Judging

We are committed to an initial concealed reading. Our independent readers receive only the synopsis and first three chapters and will evaluate the material based on the strength of the idea, writing style, characterisation and - that magic ingredient - ‘unputdownability’. They will also check to confirm that the material submitted fits the description of 'What We're Looking For'. Based on this impartial first assessment, a longlist is created. 

The New Voices Award is seeking new and unique voices, so, at this point, our readers take into account the other contributing factors you have shared with us in your entry form (excluding your contact details) in order to create a shortlist. This is then shared with a wider judging panel to consider independently.

The panel meets to discuss your work and, together, select five winners to receive the New Voices Award and be part of the mentoring and editorial development programme for the coming year.
