WNSF: What is your favourite book?
Ahana: The Secret of Chimneys by Agatha Christie is one of my favourite books. It is an interesting murder mystery with a fast-paced plot that kept me guessing till the very end. Being both adventurous and humorous, I enjoyed the novel very much indeed.
WNSF: Who is your favourite author? Or one who has inspired you and why?
Ahana: My interest in reading first started with Enid Blyton Books. Her vivid stories transported me to a different world and helped me improve my imagination. Another author that I look up to, is J.K. Rowling. Her Harry Potter series is a classic that made every kid's childhood magical. Initially, when her novel was rejected multiple times, J.K Rowling didn't give up. She was determined and goal-oriented. These qualities of hers have always inspired me.
WNSF: What was your favourite subject at school?
Ahana: I love Science and English. During my school days, Biology and English would be the lectures I would most look forward to.
WNSF: What does ‘adventure writing’ mean to you? Why did you choose to try your hand at an adventure story?
Ahana: For me, adventure writing means writing a story that consists of action and a fast-paced plot. The protagonist has to achieve a goal in a short time span. While doing so he encounters numerous obstacles which make the story adventurous. I have always wanted to write a story, however, found it difficult to make time to do so. I came across 'The Author of Tomorrow' writing competition during my summer vacation and was excited to participate in it.
WNSF: If you could ask an author anything, what would you want to know?
Ahana: Writing a novel can be a laborious process. Often, I have experienced getting stuck with the plot midway. I would like to ask the author how they manage to overcome this writer's block and how they keep consistent till the end.
WNSF: Who would you consider one of your heroes and why?
Ahana: My aunt Priya is my hero. She has encountered many adversities in her life but looking at her one wouldn't be able to say so. With a smile on her face always, she has been the epitome of courage and resilience. Her dynamic personality never ceases to inspire me.
WNSF: What is the most adventurous thing you would like to do, or place you would like to visit and why?
Ahana: I wonder what it feels like to ski down a mountain covered with snow and the wind buffeting against your face as you whizz down the slopes? Switzerland is one of the most beautiful ski destinations in the world and I hope to visit it someday and learn skiing there.
WNSF: Where do you find inspiration for your stories?
Ahana: Most of the books I’ve been reading since childhood are of the adventure and mystery genre. These stories have shaped my imagination and are a source of inspiration for me. I also find inspiration in nature. The soothing sight of trees near my house is a great source of motivation. They help me come up with new ideas and untangle any parts of the story which don’t fit into the plot.
WNSF: If you could time travel, where would you go and why?
Ahana: Visiting the historical heritage sites of my country, India, has always intrigued me. However, today most of them are in ruins. Travelling back in time would allow me to witness them in their full splendour and former glory. It would also be fascinating to meet my ancestors and experience life at a much simpler level.
WNSF: What three words would you use to describe your story?
Ahana: Intriguing, fast-paced and entertaining.
