The Big Give: Supporting Young Writers To Tell Their Stories

The Big Give’s #ArtsForImpact campaign is live, meaning that any contribution made between now and noon, Tuesday 24 March, will be matched by Niso Smith and the Reed Foundation.

As a charity, we are participating in this matched giving campaign for the first time in support of the Author of Tomorrow award. You can make a donation here.

The Big Give Arts for Impact

What is the Author of Tomorrow?

The annual competition supports young writers to tell their stories. It is open to adventure writers aged 21 and under, and encourages them to exercise their imagination, literacy and storytelling skills – as well as promoting the enjoyment of independent writing and reading.

Entries are read and reviewed by an amazing team of volunteers, and the final winners selected by a team of young judges. Ten shortlisted entrants receive bespoke editorial feedback before being published in a digital anthology on Booksmart, which is available to young readers around the world. An additional 90 entrants receive bespoke editorial feedback and a certificate commending their work. We receive entries from 750+ young writers, and it takes a team of over 40 volunteers and staff to read and review them all, treating the young writers as professionals on every step of the journey.

What could your support do?

The words above come from young writers we've worked with, their parents or our brilliant volunteer readers. They are just some of the outcomes we see from participants of the Author of Tomorrow, but what would your donation actually do?

A gift of £5, with Gift Aid, will become £11.25, and could provide one entrant with bespoke feedback to develop their writing.
A gift of £10, with Gift Aid, will become £22.50 and could cover the cost of ten entrants submitting their stories.
A gift of £30, with Gift Aid, will become £67.50 and could send a physical certificate of commendation along with personalised feedback to nine young writers.
A gift of £50, with Gift Aid, will become £112.50 and could provide five entrants with bespoke feedback to develop their writing, or it could allow us to work with three volunteer readers to review the stories submitted.
A gift of £65, with Gift Aid, will become £146 and could support the editor to work with one shortlisted young writer to develop and refine their story, ready for digital publication.
A gift of £100, with Gift Aid, will become £225 and could provide travel bursaries for the shortlisted young writers to support them to attend the awards reception.
A gift of £250, with Gift Aid, will become £562 and could add five of the shortlisted stories to the digital anthology, ensuring they can be read by young readers across the world.
A gift of £500, with Gift Aid, will become £1,125 and could create the digital anthology of ten shortlisted stories so they can be read by young readers across the world.

Thank you for your consideration.

Every gift of £1 or more made through the platform this week will be doubled, so if you can, please give today and help more young people develop their imagination and love of adventure writing. You can make a donation here.
